〜と言う — reported speech
〜と言う
Reports what someone said: plain-form clause + と言う. Works just like Mongolian «гэж хэлэв».
Notes
- Direct quote: 「…」と言う
- Questions: 〜かと聞く
- Plain form inside the quote
Example sentences
田中さんは明日来ないと言いました。
Mr. Tanaka said he won't come tomorrow.
先生は「よく勉強してください」と言いました。
The teacher said, “Please study well.”
